SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.27

Expressing sadness at the passing of the Honorable Walter A. Holden, former educator, member of the House of Delegates and State Senator from Harrison County.

Whereas, The Honorable Walter A. Holden was born October 25, 1910, the son of Arden and Ila (Harden) Holden; and
Whereas, The Honorable Walter A. Holden received an A.B. degree from Salem College and a M.A. degree from the University of Pittsburgh; and
Whereas, In 1935, the Honorable Walter A. Holden married Ethel G. (Williams) Holden, who preceded him in death and with whom he shared the joy of having two children, Thomas and Ila Rebecca; and
Whereas, In 1960, The Honorable Walter A. Holden married Helen (Davison) Holden, who passed away in 2001; and
Whereas, The Honorable Walter A. Holden was in the mercantile business with his father and later became an educator in Harrison County, serving as teacher coordinator of distributive education at Victory and Bridgeport high schools. He was former president of the Harrison County Teachers Association; and
Whereas, The Honorable Walter A. Holden served in myriad clubs and organizations in his community, including BPOE, FOE, Lions Club and Delta Pi Epsilon; and
Whereas, The Honorable Walter A. Holden was elected Delegate to the 1964 Democratic National Convention from the First Congressional District and was elected to House of Delegates in the 48th Legislature; and
Whereas, The Honorable Walter A. Holden was elected to the West Virginia Senate in 1950 and served until 1970. During his legislative service, he was responsible for many acts which were conceived and executed by him for the betterment of the citizens he served; and
Whereas, Sadly, the Honorable Walter A. Holden passed away in January, 2002, just two months after the passing of his beloved son Thomas, leaving behind his loving daughter Ila Rebecca Finly, three grandchildren and great grandchildren; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby expresses its sincere sympathy at the passing of the Honorable Walter A. Holden, former educator, member of the House of Delegates and State Senator from Harrison County; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of the late Honorable Walter A. Holden.
